History

ACCA was founded in 1979 by Dr. Maria del Carme de la Torre Boronat, Professor of Food Science and Toxicology of the Faculty of Pharmacy at the University of Barcelona, together with other professionals in the Food Sciences and Industry.

ACCA was born to respond to the needs of the Catalan scientists and professionals of having a meeting point to discuss and exchange information. Therefore, ACCA aims to be an organisation close to the Catalan Food & Beverage Industry and Research, which is one of main economical and technological sectors in Catalonia.

At the beginning ACCA was located at the Food Science cathedra till 1989. Then, due to the increase of members, the secretary was transferred to the headquarters of PIMEC (Catalan association of small and medium sized companies). In 1992 ACCA was officially admitted to joint the area of Science and Technology of the Institut d’Estudis Catalans, as subsidiary member.

In 1996, ACCA starts to publish the journal “Tecnologia i Ciència dels Aliments”, with the title TECA, targeted for the professionals in the Food field.
